Divinity Dance was established in December 2005 as a literal leap of faith for the company’s Founder, Sonja M. Kelly. She had just been named Palm Beach County’s Teacher of the Year (2005.) Though grateful for this phenomenal recognition, in this season she also recognized she had yet to fully pursue her lifelong passion of dance. She made the decision to step away from her role as a classroom teacher and that same year founded Divinity Dance. From its early & humble beginnings the mission and focus for the company was clear. Ms. Kelly’s experience as an educator & dancer would merge into a visionary framework to provide creative, accessible, and equitable dance and creative arts opportunities through Divinity Dance.
A foundational pillar of the company’s mission is to faithfully steward its gift of dance in service to others. The company accomplishes this through a variety of offerings such as community classes and workshops, collaborative partnerships with organizations, theatrical productions and events, and providing on-line digital content.
Since its inception, these many offerings have afforded Divinity Dance the honor of serving and connecting with a multitude of audiences. As the company looks back with gratitude for all it has accomplished, it is just as full of anticipation for the future.
